This new cavity fighting liquid is getting a lot of praises from both patients and dentists as it promises to get rid of numbing tooth extraction or painful cavity drilling procedures.

New cavity fighting liquid easily wipes on tooth surface

This new cavity fighting liquid takes the form of an antimicrobial formula that can be brushed directly on the tooth cavities and stop tooth decay dead in its tracks without causing any pain or discomfort to the patient.

The formula is called silver diamine fluoride of SDF, which has been used for decades in Japan but has just gained approval for use in the United States a year ago. It is making its rounds in the market under the brand name Advantage Arrest.

Although the Food and Drug Administration gave the thumbs up for SDF to be used as a tooth desensitizer for people 21 years old and up. Dentists, however, found studies that it is effective at stopping the progression of cavities and even acts to prevent the teeth from cavity damage.

Promising chapter for dental care

Hundreds of dental clinics are already using SDF and dental schools are already promoting and even training new generation dentists on how to use it.

The upside, the great one, is you don’t need to drill and you don’t need an injection,” says Dr. Margherita Fontana, a professor of cardiology at the University of Michigan.

Dental experts also agree with SDF as the best alternative to drilling cavities as it is less expensive, works faster and far better than conventional preventive dental care.

Parents are also encouraged to ask for it from their dentists, especially for pediatrics dental care as it is the least traumatic option for children than having to go through the ordeal of drilling away or scraping off dental caries.

The downside

Unless one agrees having a black spot on their front teeth, then it is something worth seriously contemplating on. SDF leaves a black spot on the tooth surface that replaces the cavities.

It would be fine if that black spot is somewhere hidden behind a molar or deep inside the mouth.

Also, patients would still have to pay for costs of SDF procedures as this has not yet been included as among those reimbursable items by health care firms.
