Soon you may be able to skip that dreaded visit to your dentist after scientists discover that stem cells could stop root canals.

Stem cells could stop root canals by fixing damaged teeth.

Researchers from the University of Nottingham and the Wyss Institute at Harvard University came up with regenerative dental fillings using stem cells inside the teeth to repair tissue.

With this new process, the tooth fillings are made of synthetic biomaterials that will be inserted into the affected area. The stem cells will then work their way to repair and regenerate the bony substance called dentin that comprise most of the tooth structure.

How stem cells work

Stem cells are part of the multicellular organism that is capable of producing more cells of the same type or from a certain cell type that gives rise to the production of different cells.

Simply put, it is the source of all cells from the brain, skin and the heart among many others that make up the human body.

They work to replace diseased, damaged or defective cells by actively dividing and producing new blood cells between two to six weeks to stimulate regeneration of new and healthy cells.

Bad teeth health habits

Using the teeth to nibble on the some stubborn finger nail can be dangerous and could cause one to get sick. Since it is the most openly exposed part of the body, it often becomes a ground of harmful bacteria than can be transmitted from one person to another,

Lack of drinking water for rehydration. This is also one revolutionary capability which means that the having ample water does not only serve to cool the mouths, but can also become breeding grounds for all sorts of harmful bacteria. Drinking water regularly helps prevent bacteria from damaging the teeth.

Brushing the teeth too much. It can cause abrasions on the tooth enamel, exposing the teeth to harmful diseases and even cause to dental and gum problems.

Eating and drinking acidic foods. Foods high in acids like citrus fruits, vinegar or fruit juices can cause the tooth’s enamel to erode.

Using the teeth as ‘tools’ to open bottle caps or using it for cutting non-food items. Using the teeth for something else other than eating wears it out and causes it to deteriorate faster and even subject it to certain diseases.
