Apparently, thanks to technology and science, laboratory grown kidneys work in animals. Scientists have claimed that their studies and experiments to replace non-functioning kidneys with laboratory grown ones have promising results in animals.

This study have seeked help on the Japanese team and reports say that scientists have transplanted the laboratory grown kidneys into animals such as pigs and rats and it has worked properly sice — passing urine just like natural ones.

In this article written by Michelle Roberts, she shares the findings on this study and how it is still years away from being tested on humans:

Scientists say they are a step closer to growing fully functioning replacement kidneys, after promising results in animals. Read more…

Manmade grown kidneys work well with animals, but it is still years away from being tested on humans. The need for kidney replacements has been a growing number. Statistics say that almost one person a day dies waiting for kidney replacement, that is almost 350 a year. In the UK, there are 6,000 people waiting in line for kidney replacement but due to the lack of kidney donations, only 3,000 are carried out each year.

Being years away from successful trials on humans is still many steps away from the start. Good news, indeed.
