Switch to green tea and see the immediate effects

To be more specific, it is the matcha green tea which comes in power form that originates from Japan is now becoming one of the most popular health drinks today and science is backing up the claims.

Matcha green tea is sourced from a certain tea variety names the camellia sinensis, which is also the plant where commercially available regular green and black teas come from.

It is the preparation process that tells the difference. Green tea is made by steaming the leaves of the Camellia tea plant, while matcha involves a complex one where only the freshest leaf tips are used to make it.

The tea-making process

As the leaves are prepared for the tea-making process, the initial step is to shade the leaves from the sun as new leaf shoots appear up until the time they are ready for picking.

The reason behind the shading process is that producers found that the plants are able to increase the leaves’ nutrients, including chlorophyll and the amino acid L-theanine.

L-theanine, according to studies, is unique to the tea plant and is believed to have properties with a relaxing effect on the brain, reduces anxiety and helps the brain enhance focus and concentration.

Better than coffee

There is evidence linking theanine with increased brain activity with somewhat similar effects to caffeine, except better.

Theanine is believed increase the brain’s alpha waves to make you feel alert but calm, which means that it promotes relaxation without causing you to feel drowsy.

Fresh breath, healthier mouth

Green tea contains highly potent anti-bacterial properties that help prevent tooth decayh and gum disease.

A study involving 110 male participants who were asked to use a mouthwash formulated with green tea extracts helped reduce gum disease and plaque development.

It was also proven to help prevent bad breath by disinfecting the mouth, as well as contain deodorant substances.

High in antioxidants

Green tea has been found to contain high levels of immune boosting antioxidants, especially catechins that are highly potent anti-inflammatory flavonols that helps fight cancer and has anti- aging properties.

Aside from these health giving properties, matcha green tea is an effective calorie burner as it has been proven to increase metabolism four times faster than average. It also helps maintain balanced chlolesterol levels in the body.
