Study Shows Teenagers Are Checking Mobile Phones During Night

How can parents be aware though that it’s actually taking a toll in their children’s lives?

A report from BBC news say that a survey found that out of 2,750 respondents, one in 10 said that they take a look at their mobile phones 10 times a night. This is merely done just to check notifications.

This is somehow alarming. The poll was conducted by Digital Awareness UK and the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference. The two organizations warn parents that this may disrupt the students’ concentration and affect their daily performance at school. Let’s check the full details at BBC.com:

As for SBS Australia, they reported that children have become so dependent on their gadgets. Apparently, there’s now a trend in social media: FOMO is what kids call it. “Fear of missing out” – this fad can affect the children’s behavior.

Pupils said they risked turning up for school tired and unable to concentrate due to the notifications from their mobile devices while they were in bed, with one-tenth of those polled checking their phones at least 10 times a night. Read more…   

The Telegraph reported that there is a greater percentage of students who admitted that using their gadgets at night affected their performance at school. Around 68 percent claimed this whereas 32 percent of the children who excessively used their gadgets said that their parents do not know about their habits.

About seven out of 10 students said that using their devices affects their school work.
