Shedding off the extra pounds is always included in everyone’s New Year’s resolutions. And thanks to these slimming superfoods, you have the necessary helping hand designed to guide you into achieving it in 2016.

Jackfruit

This tropical treat is considered to be a great source of the antioxidant resveratrol, which a new study says may hold the secret to losing weight. The study found that subject mice on a diet that contained 0.1% of the compound were able to transform their white body fat (the kind that comes with health risks) into beige fat (the kind that boosts the metabolism). It’s readily available from local food markets, and there are various ways to enjoy it.

Pulses

No, they’re not some weird thing. Pulses – beans, chickpeas, lentils, and peas – are said to help you feel fuller longer, which can help you not go on a premature cheat day. A study by the British Journal of Nutrition also asserted that having five cups more pulses every week is equivalent to cutting out 500 calories from your diet, which can speed up your weight loss. You can start adding them to your meal plans in fresh or canned forms. You can put them in salads, make hummus, or toss them into a pizza.

Coffee

Coffee is long-established as a booster of metabolism, but the weight loss benefits of the magic brew do not stop there. A 2015 study in Spain also found that having coffee before a workout can help you burn more calories. And you do not just have to drink it. Coffee can be added to brisket, potatoes, and carrots for a slow-cooker of a weight loss meal.

Kiwi

They may not have a direct effect on weight loss, but kiwis are still among the slimming superfoods simply because they help you sleep better – and better sleep can aid weight loss. Kiwis are found to have high levels of serotonins and antioxidants, which regulate our internal body clocks. To enjoy them, whip them into a smoothie before bed or dust them off with coconut flour.

Sorghum

The new It grain, Sorghum comes from the whole grain family – which have long established their reputation as weight loss aides. Sorghum is also fully edible, so you do not have to throw away the hull. You can pop it like popcorn, or you can ground it like flour to be used for baking.

Fermented cauliflower

The last of this year’s celebrated slimming superfoods, but certainly not the least. Cauliflower has no fat, so you don’t have to worry about consuming large quantities of the starchy vegetable. A 2015 study also discovered that women who eat more than their daily serving of the vegetable weigh 1.37 pounds less, per serving! When left to ferment in brine, it gets loaded with probiotics for better digestive health. Fermented cauliflower is available from stores, and you can add a dollop to various meats to start cashing in on the benefits.
