There were adverse effects but these were quite mild. On the other hand, drug studies that involve IBS treatment resulted to some of the patients dropping out because of unbearable effects.
Dr. Greger says that this might be a good suggestion for physicians to try alternative treatment first like peppermint oil before proceeding to other methods.
