We’ve all had that awesome meal – one or too many of it. After a sumptuous dinner, we tend to doze off and the next thing we know, it’s early morning already. We experience this from time to time, and let’s hope that it doesn’t turn into a habit because you know, health-wise and waist issues.
Medical Express reports that based on a new research, it appears that sleepiness is triggered because of the high protein and sodium content in the food that we consume. By the way, the volume of food matters too. Yes, it eventually leads to longer naps.

It appears that the experiment in fruit flies hinted that sleep and feeding behaviours go hand in hand. The scientists at The Scripps Research Institute in the US came up with a system that can measure these two factors.

The Deccan Chronicle explains that scientists point out that the nutrientcontent are factors that contribute to the post-meal drowsiness that you often feel after a big lunch or dinner. The higher the protein and sodium content, the more likely you are to exhibit this behaviour.
The scientists monitored the flies and the system shows records that after eating a large meal, these insects sleep after consuming a meal. This period lasts for 20 – 40 minutes, and those who ate more, slept even longer.
