Food addiction, in its simplest words, is being addicted to food. It’s the same way as other peeps are addicted to drugs. It’s not a “lack of willpower” or whatsoever, it’s caused by the intense release of your feel-good hormones called dopamine.

Some of the symptoms include eating even when you’re already full, feeling “guilty” after giving in to your cravings but you do it again anyway, hiding your eating habits from others, and making up excuses in your mind to still eat. Basically, if you find yourself not being able to control your food consumption, then you’re probably addicted.

An important part mentioned is that even if you have a reasonably healthy weight, you can still suffer from it. The best you can do is to avoid processed and sugary, salty or fatty foods because they are highly addicting that you won’t even notice it until you gain a few pounds. These foods also cause obesity, heart diseases, type 2 diabetes and more.

You have a food addiction, probably, if you’re constantly saying “I’m in a relationship with pizza”, and actually mean it. Again, everything beyond moderation is unhealthy, whatever aspect it is in your life.
