Habits and Foods that Enhance Energy

Energy is important to us, especially on a Monday morning, when all the gravity in the world seems to drag us down, and you just wish you can always hit the snooze button and sleep. Even when you gather all what’s left in your body, you’re still likely to be unproductive throughout the day.

But instead of giving in to your laziness, why not naturally fight it? Coffee is one effective pick-me up, but there are lots of other ways, like eating foods that enhance energy, exercising, and more.

Here are a few effective ones, as discussed by Justin Gammill on I Heart Intelligence:

KICK THE CAFFEINE – 8 WAYS TO NATURALLY BOOST YOUR ENERGY WITHOUT CAFFEINE

Between coffee, energy shots, energy drinks, and energy pills, there is an endless stream of caffeine that is being peddled to people every day to fight off the fatigue that our hectic lifestyles create. What these supplements don’t tell you is that caffeine could cause headaches, indigestion, insomnia, heart problems, and overall bad health in some people. Instead of ranting about the inherent evils of caffeine, I think it’s more important to talk about things you can do to cut the need or even eliminate caffeine from your life. Read more…

It’s a no-brainer that food is important in order to live as it’s our number one source. There are actually some foods that promote twice, even thrice, the energy that normal food can provide us.

Registered dietitian Charlotte Martin shares these foods on Men’s Fitness:

The Top 8 Energy-Enhancing Foods

In this fast-paced world, we too often choose convenience over health when it comes to selecting a midday pick-me-up. Quick and easy energy enhancers—in the form of sugar-laden coffees and energy drinks—may jumpstart your day, but they’re often accompanied by energy crashes. Luckily, some simple additions to your diet can act as natural energy boosters and help you fight fatigue—no Starbucks necessary. Read more…

Lastly, you can also boost it with an exercise that only requires your hands. Read more in this article by Dyani Main on Soul Spot:

In conclusion, you don’t necessarily need caffeine to give your body the instant boost it needs, you just need to eat the right foods that enhance energy or change some of your habits.

For instance, you need to eat those that are rich in B-vitamins, protein, magnesium, fibre, omega-3s, among other essential nutrients. These are especially important if you’re not getting enough sleep everyday as they will also help protect your body from diseases and conditions that you might get when you’re sleep-deprived.

Always eat breakfast, no matter how late you are at school or work. Breakfasts are a good way to provide your body the fuel that sets the tone for the day. Even just a glass of green smoothie will do the trick!

Processed, sugary foods drain every inch of your power, leaving you with feelings of sluggishness. They also increase your risk of diabetes, obesity and other chronic conditions, so avoid them as much as possible.

Exercise, even just a walk, releases your body’s feel-good chemicals, too. And of course, don’t forget the hand exercise!
