About 46.8 million worldwide are suffering from Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related condition just this year. The majority of these cases is diagnosed in people aged 65 years and older. This number is expected to double within 20 years.

There are earlier studies about treatments that can slow down the progression, like undergoing medication. And there’s even this study about a compound in red wine that can help. There are also other procedures that help calm the patients, such as using music therapy. But again, they don’t work as a cure.

Fortunately, a study published just last Tuesday has shown how a chemical clears Alzheimer’s in mice, which also has potential in bringing back the lost memories. Read more in this report on Medical Xpress:

Chemical clears Alzheimer’s protein and restores memory in mice

A research team in Korea has tested a chemical in mice genetically altered to develop features of Alzheimer’s, showing it can remove a build-up of protein in the brain associated with the disease as well as rescuing memory and behaviour problems in the animals. The findings are published in the journal Nature Communications on Tuesday 8 December 2015. Read more…

Again, this chemical clears Alzheimer’s protein in animals, and it hasn’t been tested in humans yet.

This is a remarkable study that needs to be prioritized. After all, this is such a heartbreaking disease, not only for the people suffering from it, but also for their loved ones.

To keep yourself away from it, just keep on eating clean. A healthy diet filled with brain food, particularly those that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, will reduce your risk of a variety of illnesses and conditions, including obesity, brain damage, cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, it will help you avoid being overweight, which is tied to early development of dementia.

A brain training program will also help avoid cognitive decline in people aged 50 and older.
