Don’t think, however, that you should only care about why exercising in the cold makes you wheeze – always ensure your general health during exercise. Here, we recap some of the most important reminders we all should think of during exercise, even if it is not a cold day.

Talk to your doctor. Whether you are worried about exercise-induced bronchoconstriction or not, it is always a good idea to consult with a physician before starting an exercise program. If you have existing medical conditions, your doctor will be able to guide you through establishing and engaging in a safe routine. If you do not have a medical condition, you can still get advice that can help you get the most out of exercising.

Listen to your body and don’t overexert yourself. Even if you do not have to ask why exercising in the cold makes you wheeze, you can still overexert yourself in other ways – so it is important that you protect yourself. If you feel tired, take a rest. If you don’t feel well enough to exercise, don’t. Overexertion can lead to aches and strains, injuries, and serious physical problems.

Get the right essentials, get on the right program. Make sure to always drink water when working out; but if you’re training for something more intense, like a marathon, opt for sports drinks that replace lost electrolytes. Don the right clothing and gear. If the cushions of your shoes have given up, get a new pair. If you have not exercised for a while, too, start easy and slow. You don’t have to clamour right back into your last rep or set, as your body still needs time to readjust .
