For some people, waking up in the morning is the equivalent to climbing a peak without preparation. And researchers at the University of Leicester say this may be more than just a matter of personal preferences, like how some are morning people and some are night owls; your genes may be the reason why you may find it extra hard to get off your bed and out into the real world on some (or, well, most) mornings. Scientists say that the scent of smell is one of the most nostalgic elements in the world, kickstarting a trip to memory lane with just one whiff. You will not just feel awake, you will feel motivated – ready to take on what the world will throw at you.

In A Natural History of the Senses, Diane Ackerman also says that most of what we think we taste, we actually smell. So having an electronic device that is designed to help us wake up earlier while reminding us of what coffee tastes like is like a double-whammy of a picker-upper. And we think the world is ready for that – even those people who do not normally take coffee because of hyperacidity.
