Scientists from Netherlands were able to come up with a different method for dialysis or transplantation. They discovered a more brilliant alternative and that would be in the form of a bioartificial organ. The team claims that they’ll be able to help out millions of people who were diagnosed with kidney failure.

Dimitrios Stamatialis, from the University of Twente in the Netherland explains that the technique involved in the development of the technology may lead to the progress in the treatment involving major organs like liver and pancreas.

Here Comes An Alternative For Dialysis

New Delhi: Scientists in Netherlands have developed an alternative method for dialysis or transplantation- Bioartificial kidney that they claim could help millions of patients suffering with kidney failure. Read more…

Naure World News reports that this revolutionary method may pave way to a breakthrough. The scientists are just one step closer to achieving this. The advancements made involve creating a “living membrane”, the requirement for the synthetic organ. It consists of a tight cell layer that can facilitate the transport of molecules from one side to the other.

The paper was presented at the American Society of Nephrology and the researchers had results that claim they were able to produce the living membrane using conditionally immortalized human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (ciPTEC’s) on polyethersulfone-based hollow fiber membranes.

Bioartificial Organ Will Soon Become a Reality, Could Revolutionize Treatments

In the United States alone, 26 million American adults have kidney disease – and most are unaware of it. Two of the leading causes of kidney disease are high blood pressure and diabetes… Read more…

Medical researchers are making progress in engineering synthetic organs to aid treatments. Groundbreaking developments include an artificial liver, 3-D printed kidneys and bones, synthetic blood vessels, and artificial skin from umbilical cord stem cells, among others.

NewsMedical.net reports that the investigators are nearing the final stages. On the occasion that they’ll be able to fully finalize the project, millions of people are going to benefit from it.

There are people living with organ failure and everyday life can get challenging for them. Creating a functional organ, even if it’s just bioartificial, can be of great help especially to the elderly.

Researchers Move Closer To Creating Functional Organ

Investigators are getting closer to creating a functional bioartificial kidney, with advances being presented at ASN Kidney Week 2016 November 15-20 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. Read more…

Treatment for kidney failure is a complex regimen. If the researchers are successful, this can be one of the biggest medical breakthroughs ever achieved.
