Study Shows Women Have Better Memories Than Men

Yvette Brazier from Medical News Today reports that a new study found out that women have a better memory function compared to men.

Women appeared to experience memory problems like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. They are most likely to be affected with these types of condition. However, the study says that those with healthy aging brains still have an advantage over their male counterparts.

Lizette Borreli from Medical Daily explains that we’ve known for some time that men can be forgetful especially in remembering important occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Females are especially detailed when it comes to these things.

Well, findings from the journal Menopause strongly indicate that there’s a scientific explanation behind these differences. The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) conducted the study’s tests and it involved a total of 212 men and women between the ages of 45-55. The tests include clinical and cognitive examinations as well as hormonal assessments of those who are under menopause.

Cheyenne Macdonald from Daily Mail UK informs us that when females undergo the menopause transition, they tend to exhibit forgetfulness and “brain fog.” In line with this, it raises their risk for impaired memory and dementia.

The study gives us an overview about the areas that are affected. It’s true that the results show learning and info retrieval abilities decreased but the scientists found as well that memory storage and consolidation still remained in postmenopausal females.
