Would you believe it? Sauna lowers the risk for middle-aged men. Those men in Finland who take a sauna more than four times a week are two thirds less likely to develop the disease.
The researchers followed 2,315 men, aged 42-60 years old, for twenty years. It’s part of the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Study. They were 66 percent less likely to be diagnosed with dementia.

Men who reported taking a sauna four to seven times per week were 66 per cent less likely to receive a diagnosis of dementia than those who only sauna once a week.
There are a lot of factors involved in the condition. The researchers took note of the differences in terms of age. Not only that but they also included existing risk factors like alcohol use and smoking. Blood pressure, blood cholesterol and health conditions were also factored in.
Dr Clare Walton is the research manager at Alzheimer’s Society. She said that it is important to find ways how to reduce the risk of developing this condition. It is the top priority as the disease is already the biggest killer in England and Wales.
