Though there were some cynical people who wanted to shut down the game’s popularity, there are some who tried to point out the positive effect. Millions of players trying to catch a Pokemon would wander around the different parts of their neighbourhood.
Some were glad that they were finally able to get out of their houses and reduce their sedentary lifestyles because the game required them to go and hunt outside. This brings us to the conclusion that a lot of people had some sort of physical activity when it comes to playing this game.

A study has found though that the madness was just short-lived. At first, you can hear a lot of people talking about it – at home, office or even your commute to work. Some are even talking about how it boosted their activity levels. Even so, the results of a study published in the British Medical Journal imply that these effects were overstated.
The study had 1,182 American respondents answer a survey. They all had an iPhone 6 and most were players. The subjects were found on Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.
Fitness Gains Were Short-Lived

NHS UK says that the survey monitored the steps of those who participated in the game. People walked for 11 minutes every day in the first week they downloaded the game. However, the results show this effect is not long-term.
They recorded an daily increase of 995 steps in the first week of downloading the game. However, it gradually declined to pre-game levels. The results of the study are disappointing but it somehow helps us understand that combining virtual reality and the real word has the potential of improving people’s health habits.
Game’s Exercise Effects Short-Lived In Most Players
However, the game was not designed as a means of increasing physical activity. The fact that it did so, at least in the short term, shows that melding virtual reality and the real world may have the potential to change people’s health behaviour.

The study somehow takes note that effects of games like this are greater when it comes to modifying an individual’s health condition. Though it was only temporary or short-term, it still has an impact and it may play a role as a form of therapy for certain conditions.
