Hepatitis C is the inflammation of the liver, which can affect anyone from a few weeks (acute hepatitis C) up to a lifetime (chronic hepatitis C). It is caused by the hepatitis C virus that’s typically passed on through unsafe and unsanitary injection practices. Chronic cases may develop into liver cirrhosis or liver cancer.
This virus affects about 130 to 150 million worldwide, and about 500,000 of them die every year. On the other hand, 15 to 45 percent of them is cleared of the virus within 6 months, even without any treatment.

The study, released in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that receiving a once daily drug combination of sofosbuvir-velpatasvir for a 12 week period was effective in both treatment-naïve and previously treated patients with HCV genotype 1, 2, 4, 5, or 6, including those with compensated cirrhosis (where scarring of the liver has occurred but patients have yet to experience symptoms as a result of it). Although the cure for Hepatitis C is relatively easier to access than other diseases, it’s still important to practice safety in your own ways. For instance, you can practice proper hygiene, as well as safe handling and disposal of wastes. You also have to be careful of donating or injecting blood. The safest is to avoid sharing needles and syringes.
In addition to that, there is no vaccine available for this disease, so it’s up to you take precaution to prevent infection.
Common symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, clay-colored poop, dark urine, joint pain, and even jaundice. Some do not develop symptoms.
