People with weakened immune system are prone to a lot of illnesses like cold, cough, flu and food poisoning. Of course, they are also vulnerable to chronic diseases, even certain types of cancers.
A recent technology awakens new understanding of how immune system works, called JEDI T-Cells, may possibly hold the solution in developing drugs for cancer, autoimmunity and infectious diseases. Read more in this report from researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine on Medical Xpress:
‘JEDI’ technology awakens new understanding of how immune system works
When it comes to fending off disease and helping prevent people from falling ill, the body’s immune system—armed with T-cells that help eliminate cancer cells, virus-infected cells and more—is second to none. But exactly how the immune system works remains, in many ways, a mystery, as there are numerous cell types whose functions and interactions with our immune systems have not been well understood. Now, a team of scientists at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have developed the Just EGFP Death-Inducing T-cell, or JEDI T-cells, which enable the visualization of T-cell antigens, allowing researchers to study T-cell interactions with different cell types, model disease states, and finally determine the functions of otherwise poorly characterized cell populations. The immune system is the one that attacks and destroys the harmful invaders in our body. Basically, it’s like our internal guard, so we always need to keep it functioning well. And in order to do that, we have to eat more plant foods as they are very rich in antioxidants that boost the entire system, as well as eliminate free radical damage. Other actions may be to exercise more, practice good hygiene, stop smoking, avoid alcohol and get enough sleep.
Hopefully, as this technology awakens new understanding of how immune system works, everyone will be more concerned about their health.
